Question....I need your help

Can you wear a black dress to a 5:30 wedding on May 1st?

My sis gave me this dress and I would love to wear it but it is hard hard hard for me to be okay with the idea of wearing black to a wedding.  Is this something I made up in my head as a bad thing?  I know ppl do it.  Don't they?  After all I do think my sis bought it for a wedding.  But I think it is supposed to be more formal if the wedding is at 6.  Anyway just wondered what yall thought.  In order to not have to buy another dress I have that dress option and a linen dress which are like totally opposite in dressy factor.  I really think the linen one is too casul it would be better for like a 3 or 4 oclock wedding ; ).  I do have two other dresses that I COULD wear but I don't really want to.  To me they aren't weddingy enough.

  1. i thought it was a no no to wear black to weddings, but then i went to a february wedding (it started at 4pm) and tons of gals wore black dresses. so, i was like, "hmmm. learn something new everyday." so, i say, yeah -go for black.

  2. go for it! I wore a black dress to a wedding last week and it was a 1pm wedding! You'll be perfectly fine, plus if it's cute, I know you'll "rock it hard" as was said in the movie Bride Wars about a dress that one of them wore to a wedding.... lol. Have fun! :)

  7. here's what i would do: find a soft, colorful scarf
to drape around your shoulders or wear a necklace
with a giant emerald or ruby. :)

i see black at wedding all the time. it's your sweet
smile that everyone will notice, anyway.

  8. YES you definitely can!
I was at a wedding this last weekend and I counted probably 15 girls wearing a 'little black dress.' If you're worried about it, dress it up with some brightly colored jewelry to make it more spring-y!
I always thought it was bad too but I see tons of people doing it so it's okay!

  9. I don't know if this is right, but I'd always thought the rule for weddings was no white and no black. (But then again, I'd also thought you were supposed to wear black to funerals, and I've been to a number of funerals where there were lots of people wearing brighter colors.)

  10. i love black! i wore black to caleb's brother's wedding, and it was in may! i wore a coral and turquoise necklace with it to add color. i think the only color you shouldn't wear to a wedding is white! so, that's a big YES from me!

  11. I would totally wear black. I don't want to repeat what everyone else has said but a black dress can be made to look Springy with the right accessories.
    Have fun with it!

Oh, and 'swoon' means: to be overwhelmed by ecstatic joy. ;-)

  12. If the wedding is outside then I would totally say go with the linen but if indoors then maybe the black dress but I would find out how formal this thing is..5 o'clock in spring doesn't seem too formal...haha.
